We are The Big Issue street vendors from Brisbane. Along with Big Issue staff and supporters, we are taking on the 2019 Bridge2Brisbane to help the charity that has changed our lives.
More than 116,000 people in Australia are homeless every night. That’s enough people to fill Suncorp Stadium twice over.
The Big Issue gives people like us – people who are homeless or doing it tough for any reason – the chance to get back on their feet through work.
By selling The Big Issue magazine, we get to run our own business and earn an income. But for many of us the best part is getting to know our customers, being part of a community and feeling better about ourselves. The Big Issue is like a family.
We need your help to give back. Your generous donation will support The Big Issue in Queensland – and people who need a hand up.
If you’d like to go the extra mile, you can join our team, help us fundraise and walk alongside us.
ABOUT THE BIG ISSUE
The Big Issue is a not-for-profit social enterprise with a simple concept: we give homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people a hand up.
We do this by providing no-barrier job opportunities to people doing it tough for all kinds of reasons – often beyond their control.
The Big Issue street vendors buy the magazine for $4.50 and sell it for $9, earning a meaningful income.
Since The Big Issue launched in Australia in 1996, more than 7,000 vendors have sold 12 million magazines, collectively earning $29 million.
